Development

Development works to enhance the quality of life for all segments of Winston-Salem through housing and business development programs.  The division provides financial and technical assistance to owner occupants and investors to repair substandard properties in targeted low and moderate income areas across the city.  The division also works to attract, create and retain jobs; augment the tax base; and assist with small and minority-owned businesses.

 

News and Updates

The second annual Small Business Plan Contest will begin in January. The contest provides participants the opportunity to develop their business concepts and business plans with the assistance of the Development Division staff. The City if currently soliciting for management services for the Liberty Street Vendor Market which recently completed construction.  This new facility aims to provide new food and retail opportunities to the Liberty Street area.  If you are interested in providing these services, read more in the Request for Proposals [pdf].

The NRSA Commercial Property Listing Service works to highlight properties for sale or lease within the Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area (NRSA) and to incentivize Realtors and CDCs that actively market them.  To learn more, go to the NRSA Commercial Property Listing Service.

The city has received a YouthBuild grant which aims to train and energize unemployed young adults to rebuild their communities and their own lives.  This is a great opportunity for 16-24 year olds to learn valuable work and life skills.  For more information, read about YouthBuild Winston-Salem [pdf].
