Brushy Fork Greenway Extension

The Brushy Fork Greenway Extension Project provides for the construction of a 10’ wide paved multi-use path from Old Greensboro Road to Lowery Street.

The project begins at Old Greensboro Road where the Newell/Massey Greenway ends at Skyland Park. This portion of the Brushy Fork Greenway, follows Brushy Fork Creek southward towards its junction with Salem Creek. The greenway crosses a tributary of Brushy Fork Creek with a steel bridge that blends into the natural landscape. The greenway then passes under the Fifth Street bridges as it continues south. The historic First Street Bridge stoically spans over Brushy Fork Creek and the new greenway just as it has done for more than 100 years. The greenway then crosses under Interstate 40 Business before it terminates at Lowery Street, the temporary terminus and access point.

This project presented many unique challenges and required the coordination of many governmental agencies. This project is now complete and adds 0.6 miles to the already 1.2 mile long Newell/Massey Greenway.
