A student from each public school in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, as well as students from some private schools, will be honored during the 28th annual Human Relations Student Awards Banquet on Feb. 12.
The Human Relations Commission partners with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools to hold the banquet, which honors students who exemplify positive human relations in their dealings with others on such issues as race, religion and cultural differences.
Mayor Allen Joines will read the Human Relations Month proclamation and there will be entertainment representing of different cultures. Laurie Smith, the 2004 Teacher of the Year for East Forsyth High School, will deliver special remarks. Dr. Kent Reichert, the 2007 Principal of the Year for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, will be the keynote speaker.
The banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Embassy Suites hotel, 460 N. Cherry St. Tickets are $25 and must be purchased before 5 p.m. Feb. 12. Tickets will not be sold at the door. For tickets and more information, call the Human Relations Department at 727-2429.
