School Children to be Honored at 34th Annual Human Relations Student Awards Banquet on Feb. 18.

A student from each public school in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, as well as from some private schools, will be honored Feb. 18 during the 34th annual Human Relations Student Awards Banquet.

The Human Relations Commission partners with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools to hold the banquet, which honors students who exemplify positive human relations in their dealings with others on such issues as race, religion and cultural differences.

The theme of this year’s banquet is “Hopeful Helping Hands.” The speaker at this year’s banquet will be Patty DeWitt, a first grade teacher at Kernersville Elementary School and the 2013-14 Teacher of the Year for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. Entertainment will be provided by a choir of Winston-Salem Christian School first graders, Mount Tabor High School Jazz Band, and The Feeling Friends.

The banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Embassy Suites hotel, 460 N. Cherry St. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the City of Winston-Salem Revenue Department, 100 E. First Street, Suite 121. Tickets must be purchased before 5 p.m. on Feb. 17. Tickets will not be sold at the door. For more information, call CityLink 311.
