The Department of Transportation operates and maintains the city transportation system, including city traffic signals, streetlights, traffic signs, traffic markings, and city parking operations.

A traffic maintenance worker for the Transportation Department performs such duties as laying out and painting traffic control markings, setting up cones and caution signs; installing and removing traffic signs, operating a paint machine, and cleaning equipment. The job requires manual labor and occasionally requires work to be conducted in all weather conditions. Occasionally the job requires working during late-night and early-morning hours. To get this job you must have a North Carolina driver’s license and some experience in traffic marking and painting work. This job is eligible for overtime pay.
