As part of the process for selecting the city’s next police chief, the finalists will be required to participate in a public “meet the candidates” forum, tentatively scheduled to be held in May.
A date and location has not been set for the forum, which will be held for the top two or three finalists in the search.
Waters-Oldani Executive Recruitment, the firm that is assisting the city in its search for a new police chief, mentions the forum in the brochure it prepared as part of its search effort. Waters-Oldani will begin its first review of applicants on March 31 in preparation for inviting candidates with relevant applications to preliminary interviews. Based on these, a roster of candidates will be forwarded to the city for consideration and further interviews.
A copy of the eight-page recruiting brochure the firm prepared is posted on the city Web site. It includes a profile of the city, information about city government and the Winston-Salem Police Department, a list of current issues that the incoming police chief will face, and a lengthy list of the traits the city is looking for in its next police chief.
The city hopes to have the new chief hired by June 30, when Police Chief Pat Norris steps down. Norris retired at the end of last year but agreed to remain as acting chief through June 30.
