Sanitation Division - Nov. 20, 2013
City offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 and 29, for the Thanksgiving holiday. CityLink 311, the city’s 24-hour citizen service call center, will be open to assist citizens.
This year the city will implement a new garbage collection schedule for Thanksgiving week:
Crews will collect garbage on Tuesday and Wednesday as usual.
Thursday and Friday collections will be postponed: Thursday routes will be collected on Monday, Dec. 2; and Friday routes will be collected on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
To accommodate this schedule, all garbage collections for the week after Thanksgiving will be postponed a day: Tuesday on Wednesday, Wednesday on Thursday, etc. Collections for Friday, Dec. 6, will be on Monday, Dec. 9.
Sanitation Director Johnnie Taylor said the new schedule is intended to ensure that no residents miss their garbage collection. “In previous years we moved Tuesday through Thursday collections up a day, and some people forgot to put out their garbage a day early,” Taylor said. “With this schedule, even if folks put their cart out as usual on Thursday or Friday, they will not have missed their collection.”
Red week recycling collections for Monday through Wednesday of Thanksgiving week will follow the normal schedule; Thursday & Friday collections will be postponed one day: Thursday on Friday, and Friday on Saturday. Recycling will follow the normal schedule the week of Dec. 2.
Monday and Tuesday yard-waste collections for Thanksgiving week will be made on Monday, Nov. 25. Wednesday collections will be made on Tuesday, and Thursday collections will be made on Wednesday. Yard-cart collections will follow the normal schedule the week of Dec. 2.
The collection schedule is online, check it any time or print a version to post!
