Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful - March 12, 2014

Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful and the Yadkin Riverkeeper are still accepting volunteers for the annual Great American Cleanup in Winston-Salem and a waterborne Yadkin River Cleanup, both to be held Saturday, March 22, in conjunction with Forsyth Creek Week.

During the annual Great American Cleanup in Winston-Salem, local roadways, parks and schools will be cleaned of litter from 9 a.m. to noon with the assistance of families, individuals, and church, civic, school and scouting groups. The cleanup beautifies the city and prevents litter from washing into local creeks and streams. For more information or to volunteer, go to, or call CityLink 311.

This year’s Great American Cleanup in Winston-Salem is sponsored by Waste Management, Lowes Foods, Krispy Kreme, Pepsi Bottling Ventures, Trader Joe’s, the Winston-Salem Journal, and the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation.

Also during Creek Week, the Yadkin Riverkeeper is soliciting volunteers with canoes or kayaks to participate in a waterborne cleanup of the Yadkin River from U.S 421 to the Huntsville take-out (5.4 miles) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participation is limited to 30 boats.
