Forsyth Creek Week Returning March 15-22
The second annual Forsyth Creek Week is coming March 15 – 22, with an expanded week of fun, educational and hands-on activities designed to raise awareness of local waterways and how they enhance our quality of life.
New items this year include free or reduced boat rentals at Salem Lake and Kernersville Lake Park, respectively, during Creek Week, a “dinner and a movie” night, a juried photography competition, a “Toons for Tots” children’s activity and a canoe/kayak Yadkin River clean-up. Back again are “creek crawls,” bird walks, children’s activities at local libraries, rain-barrel workshops, fishing demonstrations, a book discussion and more.

Bulky Item Collection Underway
The Sanitation Division begins its annual bulky item collection on March 3. Through Sept. 5, crews will go through the city street by street, collecting bulky items that garbage crews cannot accept. Furniture, mattresses, appliances, grills and carpet, old toys, and lawn furniture can all be set out.
The city cannot collect televisions, computer equipment, building materials, hazardous waste, tires, cement, cars and car parts, stumps, tanks and oil drums, fire wood or yard waste. Do not mix bulky items with yard waste, recyclables or brush.
Bulky item collection is for single family residences, not businesses or apartments. The Sanitation Division will mail post cards in advance to let home owners know when bulky item collection will be held in their neighborhood. Crews will go through each neighborhood only once. To ensure collection, items must be at the curb by 6 a.m. the Monday of your collection week.
Citizens can view a map of collection routes and look up their collection week online. Residents without computer access can call CityLink at 311 or 727-8000 and a CityLink agent will look up their collection date.
