The last session of "The MIX," the free summer entertainment program for teens, will be held Friday, Aug. 15, from 8 to 11 p.m. at Hanes Hosiery Recreation Center. The program began June 6.
Over the course of the summer, The MIX averaged almost 300 attendees a week to dance, play sports and video games, listen to music and visit with friends. The MIX was sponsored by the Youth Task Force and supported by the staff of the city’s Recreation and Parks Department and Marketing and Communications Department to give Winston-Salem teenagers a safe place to gather on Friday nights.
The city closed registration after 800 youths age 13 to 18 signed up to attend, said Timothy A. Grant, the recreation and parks director. "We found that teens want a place to go that is safe, fun and exciting," Grant said. "We were very successful with providing that atmosphere and with great collaboration from other city departments. Many parents, guardians and teens appreciated the Mix events."
