Special Olympics North Carolina/Forsyth CountySpecial Olympics Forsyth County will hold its first-ever “BBQ & Boogie” fund-raiser on Saturday, October 17, from 6 to 11 p.m. at Corpening Plaza in downtown Winston-Salem.

Mr. Barbeque will provide the barbecue dinner (barbecue, cole slaw, baked beans, bread, and banana pudding). Two local bands (Katelyn Marks and Knuckles Deep) will provide the boogie. The event also includes a beer/wine bar and a silent auction, says Lisa Kiser, the coordinator for Special Olympics Forsyth County.

“We are so excited to be able to offer this event to raise funds and awareness about Special Olympics Forsyth County,” Kiser said. “It should be a night filled with good food and good times.”

Advance tickets are $25 each or $20 when purchased in groups of two or more, and are on sale through the Special Olympics Forsyth County office at 2301 N. Patterson Ave., Winston-Salem, by calling 727-2425 or online at www.firstgiving.com/bbqandboogie . Tickets at the door will be $30.

The Special Olympics Forsyth County BBQ & Boogie is sponsored by Mr. Barbeque, Tailgators, Winston-Salem Recreation & Parks, DJ Snow, Katelyn Marks and Knuckles Deep. All proceeds benefit Special Olympics Forsyth County and the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

Special Olympics Forsyth County offers year-round sports training and competition for more than 1,400 youth and adults with intellectual disabilities. These athletes inspire greatness through their success and provide motivation to the thousands of coaches, sports officials, local program committee members and event organizers involved in Special Olympics. Special Olympics Forsyth County offers Olympic-type competition in 14 sports. It is the third largest Special Olympics program in North Carolina.
