The Winston-Salem Police Department is joining with other local law-enforcement agencies for the annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service to honor those officers who have been killed or injured in the line of duty. This year's service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at Pinedale Christian Church, 3395 Peters Creek Parkway.
A roll call of officers killed in the line of duty will be read and the Rufus Dalton Award will be presented to officers who were injured in the line of duty during the past year.
Other participating agencies include the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, the Kernersville Police Department, the North Carolina Highway Patrol in Forsyth County, Forsyth County Animal Control, and the campus police departments for Wake Forest University, the UNC School of the Arts, and Winston-Salem State University.
On Saturday, May 21, the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation will host a 5K run at Tanglewood Park to raise money for the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation. The foundation is also sponsoring a softball tournament May 14 at Yadkin County Park, 6600 Service Road, Yadkinville, to benefit the foundation.
