Assistant Police Chief Barry D. Rountree will be sworn in as Winston-Salem’s new chief of police at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 30, during a ceremony in the City Hall Council Chamber.

Citizens can watch the ceremony live on WSTV 13, channel 13 on TimeWarner Cable or Channel 99 on AT&T U-verse in Forsyth County. Citizens can also watch WSTV 13 on the city’s website.

Rountree, 49, is a 25-year veteran of the Winston-Salem Police Department. He currently serves as the assistant chief in charge of the Investigative Services Bureau. He previously served as commander of the Field Services and Support Services bureaus. He also has overseen the Professional Standards Division, the Special Operations Division, Recruiting, Training, and Information Technology.

Rountree has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Winston-Salem State University and a master’s in public affairs from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Rountree also is a graduate of the Administrative Officers Management Program at North Carolina State University and the Municipal Administration program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
