Historic Bethabara Park will hold its annual Independence Day celebration Sunday, June 30, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. with a reading from the Declaration of Independence, Uncle Sam on stilts, the Guilford Militia, hay wagon rides, children’s games and activities, music by the Bethabara Concert Band, a World War II encampment and a watermelon seed spitting contest. All activities are free; concessions stands will be selling hotdogs, ice cream and popcorn.

All city pools will be open for their regular summer hours on Independence Day, as will city golf courses and Salem Lake. Recreation & Parks 

Other family-friendly activities to celebrate Independence Day include:

  • 4th of July Celebration at the Children's Museum of Winston-Salem, July 4, 9 a.m. 390 S. Liberty St. Get patriotic (temporary) tattoos, make festive paper flags and sound shakers and march in the July 4th parade to Under the Stars to sing songs. Free with paid museum admission.
  • Old Salem Independence Day Celebration, July 4, 9:30a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Free: Home Moravian Church 4th of July service, 8:30 a.m.; naturalization ceremony, 10 a.m. With paid admission: hands-on activities, demonstrations, music, games, procession around Salem Square, Independence Jazz Concert at St. Philips Heritage Center.
  • 4th of July Fireworks at the Winston-Salem Dash Game, July 4. Free with the purchase of a game ticket.
  • Community Band Patriotic Concert, July 7, Miller Park Amphitheater, 6:30 p.m.
