Winston-Salem Sustainability Resource Center - Sept. 27, 2013
The Winston-Salem Sustainability Resource Center is accepting nominations through Oct. 10 for its inaugural Sustainable Business Awards. The awards will honor local businesses, non-profits, organizations, and individuals who have made exemplary contributions to sustainability in Forsyth County.
Third-party and self-nominations are encouraged; the awards are open to any qualifying business, organization, or individual located or operating in Forsyth County, said Megan Anderson, a member of the center’s advisory board and the chair of the awards program.
“Our mission is to be a catalyst and resource for sustainability change in Winston-Salem and the surrounding community,” Anderson said. “We want these awards to recognize those organizations and individuals that are setting an example for all of us to follow.”
Nominations must be submitted by 4 p.m. Oct. 10. Nomination categories include:
- Sustainable Business of the Year (1-50 employees)
- Sustainable Business of the Year (51+ employees)
- Sustainable Non-Profit of the Year
- Spirit of the Community (open to groups and individuals)
Winners will be announced at the Sustainable Business Awards and Celebration on Oct. 30 at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art. Winners will receive a hand-made glass award made of re-purposed materials and commissioned from The Olio, a non-profit glass-blowing program for youth and the community that promotes entrepreneurship and empowerment.
