Joel Everett, who composed and performed the original score for the WSTV 13 production “Merger: Making the Twin City,” has received a Regional Emmy from the Nashville/MidSouth Region of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Everett was presented the Emmy for Music Composer/Arranger at an awards ceremony Jan. 25.
“Merger: Making the Twin City” is an hour-long documentary produced by WSTV 13 for the city’s centennial celebration in May. It looks at the origins of Salem and its theocratic governance; the establishment of Winston and its rise as an industrial center; early, failed efforts at consolidation; and the forces that made consolidation inevitable.
Everett’s original score assigned separate musical themes to represent the towns of Salem and Winston and combined them to musically symbolize their consolidation in 1913.
