Mayor Allen Joines is accepting applications from city residents interested in serving on the following boards and commissions:
Human Relations Commission (four vacancies): studies problems of discrimination and encourages fair treatment and mutual understanding among all city ethnic groups.
Emergency Management Advisory Council (two vacancies): advises city and county officials on civil preparedness matters.
Ten Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness (one vacancy): oversees implementation of the strategic initiatives described in the Ten-Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness.
Loan Committee (two vacancies): reviews loan requests to assist small businesses in creating or retaining jobs to benefit low to moderate income individuals and to stimulate the expansion and development of small businesses.
Sister Cities Board (one vacancy): seeks to promote international cooperation, understanding and development through exchanges with Winston-Salem’s sister cities.
Community Sustainability Program Commission (16 vacancies): a new board that reviews the city’s Local Action Plan and provides recommendations to the City Council regarding greenhouse gas emissions and related sustainability issues.
Stormwater Appeals Board (five vacancies): a new board that hears and decides appeals related to stormwater issues.
Applications must be received by 5 p.m. Jan. 23. Applications may be faxed to the Mayor’s Office at 748-3241 or mailed to P.O. Box 2511, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27102.
