Southeast Suburban Area Plan Update - Draft
The City-County Planning Board staff is currently working on an update of the adopted 2009 Southeast Suburban Area Plan. At the Southeast Suburban Area Plan Update kickoff meeting (held on September 22, 2015, at Sedge Garden Park Recreation Center), citizens shared their thoughts, concerns, and suggestions [pdf/206kb/2p] on the future of the area. Using the community’s feedback, staff presented proposed land use recommendations for the area on October 15, 2015. These recommendations were discussed again at the November 17 meeting, where staff also discussed transportation, historic preservation, and community facilities recommendations [pdf/2.3mb/30p]. On Tuesday, December 8, 2015, a final opportunity was provided for citizens to review the complete draft of the Southeast Suburban Area Plan Update [pdf/8.06mb/56p]. At this drop-in session staff members were present to answer any final questions about the plan prior to it going to the elected bodies for approval.
On February 11, 2016, the City-County Planning Board recommended approval of the Southeast Suburban Area Plan Update. On April 4, 2016, City Council held a public hearing and adopted the Southeast Suburban Area Plan Update. The Board of County Commissioners will hold a public hearing for the proposed Area Plan update on May 9, 2016, at 4:00 p.m. in the County Commissioners Meeting Room located on the fifth floor of the Forsyth County Government Center (201 North Chestnut Street in Winston-Salem).
