Our beautiful city is known as the “City of Arts and Innovation”. We are rich in business, culture and arts. Winston-Salem is a combination Old Salem and modern Winston.
The town of Salem was founded in 1766 by Moravian settlers. The Moravian church and Salem residents kept records and detailed events of their lives, interaction, buildings and culture into their transformation of what is today the city of Winston-Salem. Visitors can now interact with costumed staff by engaging in conversation and with practical activities to experience what life was like in the 1700’s and 1800’s. Old Salem has the largest surviving pipe organ built by David Tannenberg.
Winston-Salem is home to Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, HanesBrands Inc., Reynolds American Tobacco Company, Texas Pete, and famous poet Maya Angelou. Some of the events we host include the National Black Theatre Festival, River Run International Film Festival and the Winston-Salem Air Show.
Like many North Carolina towns, Winston-Salem is no stranger to the film industry. Several movies and commercials were filmed here, including Junebug (2005), Leatherheads (2008), and a Fiat Commercial (Old Salem 2013).
There are several attractions in the city: Old Salem, The Reynolda House and Gardens, Hanes Mall, SciWorks, BB&T Ball Park (The Dash Stadium), The Winston-Cup Museum, The Downtown Arts District, Salem College, North Carolina School of the Arts, Winston-Salem State University, and Wake Forest University.
The Embassy Suites and Marriott Hotels are located in downtown Winston-Salem, which gives easy access to a wide variety of restaurants, bars, and active nightlife. We look forward to your visit and hope you enjoy the conference and all of the extravagance our city offers.
