The Bonner-Redd-Surratt-Davis Scholarship Program: Money for college and a job when you graduate.

As part of an ongoing effort to promote diversity, the Winston-Salem Police Department offers scholarships to students enrolled in historically black colleges and universities who are interested in a career in law enforcement. 

The program is named after four previous chiefs.

  • Covers tuition, book and fees at public HBCUs. At private HBCUs the program provides an amount based on the average of public HBCU costs
  • Open to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors
  • Open to all majors
  • Must have a 3.0 GPA
  • Applicants must pass mini-background check and initial eligibility testing
  • Scholarship recipients must complete summer internship with the Winston-Salem Police Department
  • Scholarship recipients have a three-year service commitment with the Winston-Salem Police Department after graduation

Pre-Employment Program: Once you graduate, the Winston-Salem Police Department will put you to work in a paying position while you wait for recruit training to begin.
