The Winston-Salem Police Department is the host agency this year for the N.C. Peace Officers Memorial Service, to be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Pinedale Christian Church, 3395 Peters Creek Parkway. State Attorney General Roy Cooper is scheduled to attend. The public is invited.
The service honors law enforcement officers in North Carolina who have been killed or injured in the line of duty. Law enforcement agencies from across the Triad will be participating.
The N.C. Peace Officers Memorial Service is being held in conjunction with National Police Week, to be observed May 13 – 19.

Friday, May 11, 11 a.m. The Forsyth County Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation with the Winston-Salem Foundation will honor the 2012 Rufus Dalton recipients during a ceremony on the lower level of Hanes Mall just outside of Belk. Rufus Dalton Award is presented to officers who were injured in the line of duty during the past year.
Sunday, May 13, 8 p.m. The 24th annual Candlelight Vigil will be a live webcast from Washington D.C. The Candlelight Vigil honors all law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. During the vigil, the names of officers will be read aloud and formally dedicated to the national memorial. To register in advance for this free online event, visit www.LawMemorial.org/webcast.
Saturday, May 19, 8 a.m. The Forsyth County Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation 2nd annual Poker Run will take place at Smokin’ Harley Davidson, 3441 Myer Lee Drive, Winston-Salem. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Riders will depart and return to the dealership.
