Recreation and Parks - July 28, 2014
Recreation and Parks officials today announced changes for the final week of Fairground Fridays, the city’s centerpiece for summer youth activities hosted at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds. The last day for skaters to use the ramps in the skateboard park is Tuesday, July 29, from 2 to 8 p.m. The ramps will be disassembled to make room for an event inside the Education Building Saturday, August 2. Skaters attending this week’s Fairground Friday will be allowed to skate inside the Coliseum Annex, but without the skate park ramps. Despite the changes, skaters will still be required to wear helmets, knee and wrist guards, and sign a waiver if they are over 18. Skaters under 18 must have a parent sign the waiver, which can be printed and filled out at home and brought to the skateboard park. The waiver and complete rules are posted at CityofWS.org/FairgroundFridays. The annex will also house arcade games and concessions for this Friday’s event. Fairground Friday is open from 7 to 10 pm.
City staff announced plans to build an outdoor skate park earlier this summer, but no decision has been made regarding the permanent outdoor location.
Hosted by Recreation and Parks, and sponsored by Forsyth Tech, Fairground Fridays includes music by Mr. Bill’s Productions, MC Busta Brown, dance contests, gift cards, concessions, free arcade games, and an indoor skate park. Attendance over the last three weeks was 914, 889, and 994 respectively.
