Salem Lake has been called the hidden diamond in the city of Winston-Salem. Located minutes away from downtown Winston-Salem, Salem Lake offers a 365-acre lake with a 7-mile trail that offers a scenic view of the lake at all times.
Stand up Paddle Boarding (SUP) is now allowed at Salem Lake. The same rules and regulations apply to SUP as for private kayaks and canoes. A life jacket is required to be with you at all times, and there is still absolutely NO SWIMMING in the lake.
In 2014, Salem Lake was voted by area enthusiasts as Winston-Salem's best Walking Trails and best Bike Riding!
The lake offers pier and boat fishing for hybrid bass, large mouth bass, catfish, crappie, bream, carp and white perch.
Anyone 16 or older must have a North Carolina State Fishing License to fish at Salem Lake or Winston Lake. This license may be purchased at Salem Lake fishing station.
*(No fishing from banks. Boat motors over 50 horsepower must have prop removed to launch.)
The Fishing Station is stocked with all of your fishing needs and concessions needs should the hunger pangs get too painful while you are trying to hook the big one. A knowledgeable staff is always on hand to help you with any equipment problems you might have or questions about which fish is hitting which bait.
The Lake staff can also furnish you with your North Carolina Boat Registration and North Carolina Fishing License. Lake and Trail close 30 minutes before Park closes. Please be off the lake and the trail so the park can be closed properly.
Caution: Feeding the water fowl may be harmful to their health. DO NOT feed the ducks or the geese.
Do you enjoy walking, running, and riding around the lake? Be sure to read the Trail Users Information page.
