Transportation Department - June 10, 2014
The Salem Creek Greenway detour is being amended at Vargrave Street to avoid construction of a new power line tower. The amended route will use the parking spaces lining the south side of Parkview Street, off Vargrave Street, and connect to the greenway using the footbridge over Salem Creek at the southern end of Price Street, near the Anderson Center on the Winston-Salem State University campus.
The parking spaces will be fenced off, giving greenway users a clear route through the parking lot.
The amended route is scheduled to go into effect Friday, June 13, and will be in place an estimated 60 to 90 days while Duke Energy crews build a taller tower to raise the power lines over U.S. 52.
The city has detoured users off the greenway to avoid construction of the Salem Creek Connector, a new, four-lane road that will run between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and the intersection of Research Parkway and Rams Drive.
A map of the detour route and information about the Salem Creek Connector project is posted at DOT.CityofWS.org. For more information call CityLink 311.
