Several neighborhood families the 2700 block of Maplewood Avenue got together to say thank you to city Streets Division workers who have spent the past six weeks replacing a storm pipe that serves their neighborhood. The kids made a banner and the parents provided iced tea and Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
The Streets Division maintains the infrastructure of city streets, sidewalks, and drainage systems and provides emergency services to ensure safe and reliable roadways. The Streets Division is responsible for maintaining 1,020 miles of roads. We are also responsible for sidewalk repair, replacement and maintenance; and for the repair of all street cuts on city streets made by private contractors, utility companies such as gas, power, and cable, and the City Water and Sewer Division.

Information on snow removal
During winter storms this season, the state Department of Transportation is taking responsibility for clearing all state-maintained roads inside the Winston-Salem city limits, including such main roads as
- University Parkway
- Peters Creek Parkway
- Waughtown Street
- New Walkertown Road
- Robinhood Road
- Martin Luther King Jr. Drive
State DOT officials requested the change.
In previous years, the state paid the city to clear all or portions of these roads. Because of the change, the city will not be able to respond to citizen requests to clear snow from state-maintained roads. Citizens should call the local state DOT maintenance office at 896-7014 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on workdays and after hours.
Calls for service for city streets should be made to CityLink at 727-8000. If the CityLink agent determines that the street is state-maintained, the agent will forward the call to the state DOT office.
