The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities Division's primary responsibility is to collect, treat, and distribute water, waste water, and solid waste.
News and Updates
Some customers in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities service area may notice a higher level of chlorine taste and odor in their water. Due to abnormally high water temperatures of approximately 84 degrees Fahrenheit in the water distribution system, water treatment plants have raised the level of chlorine to ensure the water remains safe. In warmer weather the chlorine added at water treatment plants dissipates faster the longer it stays in distribution system. By increasing the amount of chlorine leaving the plants, Utilities can insure there is sufficient chlorine in the distribution system to ensure proper disinfection of our water.
In addition to the increase in chlorine leaving our facilities, Utilities staff will be performing water-quality flushing to ensure chlorine levels throughout the system are as consistent as possible.
