Staff for the City/County Utility Commission will hold a drop-in session Wednesday, June 11, to provide information about an upcoming project to replace water lines and rehabilitate sewer pipes in the northern portion of the West Salem neighborhood. The session will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Piedmont Baptist College Pope Activity Center, 704 Bank St.
The work area is bordered by Peters Creek Parkway to the west, Broad Street to the east, Bank Street to the south and Business Interstate 40 to the north.
Some of the infrastructure in this area is up to 100 years old. A new water distribution system will be installed, including pipes, fire hydrants, valves and water meters. The existing system will remain in service until the new system is completed and ready to be placed in service.
Construction in the West Salem area will begin in June 2008 and is expected to take at least a year. For more information call Mike Patton with Utilities Administration at 771-5121.
