Fire Department

Early warning and suppression systems, such as fire alarms and residential sprinkler systems, are a first line of defense in preventing the loss of life and mitigating property damage.  The Winston-Salem Fire Department serves the community by providing a timely response to calls for assistance involving fire, emergency medical situations, and incidents necessitating rescue.  In addition, the department strives for the prevention of unwanted fires through code enforcement, education, and arson investigation activities.

Fully-involved house fire

The Department recently purchased several items designed to enhance educational efforts in preventing fires.  Members of the fire prevention bureau along with personnel from the Fire Suppression Bureau unveiled the equipment during a recent educational program at the Weatherwood Court Apartment Complex, pictured below.  Two hundred children and seventy-five adults participated in the program.  Additional photos are available by accessing the Education Photo Album.
