The Human Relations Commission is sponsoring two forums exploring race and community relations this month in observance of Race Equality Week, Sept. 22 - 26.

On Monday, Sept. 22, Council Member Joycelyn Johnson will welcome participants to a student forum on race relations to be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Atkins High School. Students from Winston-Salem/Forsyth County high schools will discuss their perspectives on racism and stereotypes. Atkins High School is co-sponsoring the forum.

On Wednesday, Sept. 24, Council Member Evelyn Terry will welcome participants to this year’s "Beyond Soul and Salsa" forum on African-American/Hispanic relations. The forum will discuss immigration, English-only initiatives and gang activity. The forum will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Sprague Street Recreation Center, 1350 E. Sprague St. The forum is co-sponsored by the Winston-Salem chapter of the NAACP.
