Sister Cities Winston-Salem is seeking entries for the 2009 Young Artists Showcase. Student artists ages 13 through 18 are eligible to submit an original work of art on the theme “Your path to peace.”
Entries must be received by March 27. Entry forms are available from school art teachers or by calling Sister Cities Winston-Salem at 747-7474.
Local entries will be exhibited April 6 - 20 at the Bryce A. Stuart Municipal Building. The top entry will move on to compete with local winners from around the world in the Sister Cities International 2009 Young Artists Showcase.
Last year, a painting by Holly Fulton, a student in the advanced placement art class at the Career Center, took third place in the Sister Cites International competition. Fulton received a $300 prize. Her drawing is on tour this year with Sister Cities International.
Since 1988, the Sister Cities International Young Artists Showcase has encouraged youth from around the globe to interpret through art the organization’s mission of promoting peace through mutual respect, understanding and cooperation.
