The Winston-Salem Police Department will step up its presence in school zones when children in Winston-Salem return to school on Aug. 25, Police Chief Scott Cunningham says.
“I want to remind drivers to watch for kids at bus stops, near schools and in the neighborhoods,” Cunningham said. “And of course, they need to stop for school buses and remember to comply with reduced speed limits in school zones.
“To increase safety in school zones during these first few weeks of school, the Police Department will increase its presence and enforcement in school zones. Our goal is to ensure that the school year gets off to a safe start.”

WSTV-13, the government channel on TimeWarner Cable, channel 13, will be running a public service announcement emphasizing safe driving around schools and bus stops.
