The city is looking for a tree suitable for display as the city Christmas tree in Corpening Plaza. Citizens with an evergreen tree that they want removed should contact CityLink at 727-8000 by Nov. 10. The city will cut down the tree for free, grind the stump and pay the owner for the tree.
Procuring the city Christmas tree locally would spare the city the cost of going up to the mountains and transporting the tree back to Winston-Salem, says James Mitchell, the director of vegetation management. "In addition, there are many high quality trees here in Winston-Salem that would make great Christmas trees," Mitchell said. "If someone is planning to remove a tree, why not let it serve as Winston-Salem's Christmas tree?"
The city would prefer to have a fir or spruce at least 50 feet tall. It is not looking for a white pine or leyland cypress. The tree must be accessible to a crane.
Citizens may also e-mail photos of their tree to email@example.com.
