The water play areas at Bolton and Kimberley Park pools will not be open for the Memorial Day weekend and will remain closed until further notice because of a recall of drain covers in the play areas.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the voluntary recall Thursday of four models of pool drain covers manufactured by Waterway Plastics of Oxnard, Calif., because they were incorrectly rated to handle the flow of water through the cover. No incidents or injuries have been reported to the commission.
The recalled covers are used at the water play areas, said Tim Grant, the city recreation and parks director. The pools will be open. Parkland Pool will also be open for the Memorial Day weekend.
The city will not be able to reopen the water play areas until it can locate and install replacement drain covers, Grant said.
Bolton, Kimberley Park, Parkland, and Polo pools will open for the summer the weekend of June 4, however, Kimberley, Parkland and Polo pools will have reduced hours the week of June 6. Happy Hill, Mineral Springs, Reynolds Park and Sprague pools will open for the summer on June 11.
