Selected downtown streets will be closed starting at 8 a.m. Sunday, June 19, for Cycling Sunday and the Powerade State Games of North Carolina Bike Criterium.
The bike criterium will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on a course that circles the block bounded by Fourth, Spring and Poplar streets and Holly Avenue. Bike racers from across North Carolina will be competing in this race sponsored by the Powerade State Games of North Carolina.
From 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., downtown streets bounded by Fifth, Spring, and Poplar streets and Holly Avenue will be closed for Cycling Sunday. Walkers, skateboarders, scooters, and roller-skaters are welcome, too! Helmets are required for everyone but walkers. Participants can register for the drawing for an adult bike and a kid’s bike at the Spring Street entrance to the Central Library parking garage.
