Chief Barry D. Rountree today announced the promotion of Captain Wilson S. Weaver II to assistant police chief. Weaver will oversee the Field Services Bureau and will assume his duties February 1, 2014.
Weaver, a 29-year veteran of the Winston-Salem Police Department, currently serves as commander of Special Operations Division of the Field Services Bureau.
Weaver, 51, began his career with the Winston-Salem Police Department in 1984 as the honor graduate of Basic Law Enforcement Training class 15. During his career he has served in the Patrol, Professional Standards (Internal Affairs) and Special Operations divisions. Weaver has served as the WSPD lead instructor for anti-terrorism/homeland defense. His professional specialty is response and resolution of high-risk incidents. He has the ability to lead the WSPD through incidents with large community impact that include all hazards, from ice storms or other weather-related events to active shooters or other acts of terrorism.
Weaver holds the N.C. Law Enforcement Officer’s Advanced Level Professional Certificate and is a certified Law Enforcement Instructor, with a specialty certification in subject control/arrest techniques. He has an associate’s degree in law enforcement technology from Forsyth Technical Community College, a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Gardner-Webb University and a master’s degree in public administration from Appalachian State University.
