Internet Crimes Against Children

Since October of 2012, the Winston-Salem Police Department has been a member of the North Carolina Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The ICAC Task Force consists of numerous law enforcement agencies that work closely with the State Bureau of Investigations as well as federal authorities in the suppression and prosecution of the online sexual exploitation of children.

As a member of the ICAC Task Force, detectives are responsible for not only conducting investigations that are reported to the agency, but also initiating investigations that target individuals who participate in the manufacture, distribution and electronic downloading or viewing of child pornography. Additionally, the ICAC Force investigates cyber tips received via the State Bureau of Investigations from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
