Assistant Chief Natoshia V. Miles is a 25-year veteran with the Winston-Salem Police Department. Assistant Chief Miles was born and raised in Jackson, Alabama. She moved to Winston-Salem in 1989 after graduating from high school.

Professional Career

Assistant Chief Miles began her career with the Winston-Salem Police Department in 1993. She has been active in the community through her role in the police department. She was promoted to Corporal in 1997, Sergeant in 2004, Lieutenant in 2008, and Captain in 2013.

Since 2013, as the District One Commander, she has worked diligently toward the agency's goal of enhancing community-police relations. Assistant Chief Miles has served in the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, and Operations Support Division. In 2009, she served as a commander in the Investigative Services Bureau, where she was responsible for overseeing burglary investigations and adult sex crimes. She was also tasked with developing and implementing a pilot School Resource Officer Program (SRO) to service four schools in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School District. During the 2010-2011 school year, the SRO Program was expanded to service 21 schools and is still very active today.

Assistant Chief Miles worked in the Operations Support Division, where she was responsible for managing the SRO Program, along with overseeing numerous support units. She was later tasked with serving on the planning committee to form the agency's Trust Talks Program. In her current assignment in the Support Services Bureau, Assistant Chief Miles is responsible for managing daily operations of the Training Division, Forensic Services Division, Communications Division, Information Technology Division, Records Division, Evidence Management Section, Recruiting, and many others. She also serves as a General Instructor for the agency.

Education

Assistant Chief Miles holds a Master of Arts Degree in Management and Leadership from Liberty University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Winston-Salem State University. She is a graduate of the Police Leadership and Development Institute, North Carolina State University Administrative Officers Management Program, the National Forum of Black Public Administrators, and Leadership Winston-Salem Class of 2017. She attended the FBI Executive Leadership Institute in 2016.
