Spanish Certification

Certification & Incentive

An incentive of $1,100 additional compensation for demonstrated competency in oral Spanish is authorized when there is an existing business need for the employee in the position to use Spanish language in the execution of job duties.

The employee in conjunction with his/her supervisor must submit a completed form (PDF) directly to the Department/Division/Office Head for their work unit. When the completed form has been signed by all parties, it should be submitted to Brenda Holmes in Employee Development.

If the application is approved, the employee will then take an exam of oral Spanish language skills that is tailored specifically to the work area. Upon satisfactory completion of this exam, the employee will be eligible for the salary increase.

Upon Promotion

When an employee is promoted, the employee should consult the new supervisor to determine if there is an existing business need for using the Spanish language in the execution of the new job duties. If so, the employee in conjunction with his/her supervisor should submit a completed form for re-certification (PDF) directly to the Department/Division/Office Head for his work unit. When completed by all parties, it should be submitted to Brenda Holmes in Employee Development.

If the employee is re-certified, he/she will receive additional compensation of $1,100 per year added to base pay. Re-certification does not involve another test.
