  1. Map Forsyth

    MapForsyth provides geographic information system services for the City of Winston-Salem.

  2. Marketing & Communications

    The Marketing and Communications Department maintains the city’s web site, produces CityPage, a full-page advertisement published periodically in the Winston-Salem Journal and The Chronicle; produces CityLine, a newsletter about city services inserted quarterly in water bills; and issues press releases to keep local reporters informed about events affecting city residents, and produces the television channel WSTV Digital Media.


    1. Mayor
      The mayor presides at all meetings of the council, votes in case of a tie, provides leadership on policy issues, recommends appointments to city boards and commissions, carries out special responsibilities during emergencies and represents the city at official functions.
  3. Metropolitan Planning Organization

    The Metropolitan Planning Organization is responsible for carrying out the transportation planning process in the Winston-Salem Urban Area.

  4. Minority & Women's Business Enterprise

    Commonly called M/WBE, this division aims to increase participation of minority and women-owned business in city contract bidding.

  5. Operations

    Contains several divisions, including Sanitation, Sustainability and Traffic Field Operations.

  6. Performance & Accountability

    The Office of Performance and Accountability is charged to better use data and evidence to manage operations. This office includes the Internal Audit division and the Analytics Unit.

  7. Planning & Development Services

    Planning and Development Services is comprised of Inspections and Planning, both joint city-county agencies.

    The Property Facilities Management Department Provides preventative measures and maintenance for city-owned buildings and facilities, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, roofing, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and custodial services. It also oversees the Office of Sustainability, vegetation management and cemeteries.

    Recreation and Parks provides activities through recreation centers, parks, greenways, pools, golf courses and other facilities. Summer camp programs are available for the children.

    The Sanitation Division provides collection of trash, yard carts, brush, bulky items, commercial (dumpster) collection, and dead animals.

  14. Stormwater

    The Stormwater Division restores, protects and preserves the surface waters within the City of Winston-Salem.

    The Office of Sustainability collects recycling for a contractor to process. it also organizes programs to enhance the city appearance through Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful and researches and recommends ways to conserve greenhouse gas emissions and energy use.

  16. Transportation

    The Transportation Department provides safe and efficient transportation for people and goods in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. It also maintains and improves roadways, bike routes and parking areas, as well as develops transportation plans.

    Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities provides high-quality water, sewer and solid waste services through responsible use of resources, reliable delivery and stewardship of the environment.

  18. Winston-Salem Transit Authority (WSTA)

    The Winston-Salem Transit Authority provides city bus services, as well as countywide transportation services for the physically handicapped.
