Housing Study and Affordable Housing Coalition

In 2018 the City of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County procured a housing study to better understand the housing needs of our community. The study included an assessment of existing housing conditions, population characteristics, and present and future market demands. It identified potential housing gaps, as well as possible financing opportunities to address the needs.

As a result of the study, the Affordable Housing Coalition was formed to dive deeper into the study and work towards finding strategies to:

  • Improve the quality and increase the quantity of affordable housing
  • Equip people to better afford and access housing
  • Assist in the development of additional strategies to support affordable homeownership opportunities
  • Help to promote opportunities related to affordable housing like open houses, housing information workshops, RFPs, and surveys
  • Help to identify and secure sustainable, long-term resources for affordable housing

The group began meeting mid-2019 and will prepare a report annually for Council to highlight the program and initiatives that has addressed the list above.
