The City of Winston-Salem serves as the Collaborative Applicant for CoC grant funds from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The purpose of HUD CoC Assistance Programs is to reduce the incidence of homelessness in communities by assisting individuals and families in moving to self-sufficiency and permanent housing. The City, in cooperation with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County CoC and its member agencies, coordinates annual CoC grant submissions on behalf of all stakeholders requesting funding to provide homelessness services.
