Street Sweeping

Importance

Street sweeping protects water quality by preventing litter, debris, and sediment from entering storm drains. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has defined street sweeping as a best management practice for preventing stormwater runoff. Street sweeping is also necessary for vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian safety.

Service

Services are provided five days a week by staff in the sanitation department and on weekends for special events. Street SweeperSuburban areas inside the city are cleaned three times per year. As you move inward toward the Central Business District   (CBD) and the density of housing increases, the cleaning frequency changes from four times and then to five times per year. The Central Business District is swept weekly.
