Stream Watch

Muddy Stream BankStream Watch is an educational, citizen science program to help everyone learn more about our local waterways in Winston-Salem in cooperation with the NC DEQ. Volunteers will help make visual observations about our local waterways and share pictures of the creeks and streams they visit through our survey. Volunteers will also learn how to identify stream features and different stream habitats. Learn more about Stream Watch by visiting our Stream Watch website.

To volunteer for Stream Watch, please use the Stormwater Volunteer Form.

Storm Drain Marker Program

Storm Drain Marking can be done by anyone! Volunteers mark storm drains in their neighborhoods or anywhere in the city where storm drains haven't been marked.  In addition, volunteers place informational door hangers on neighborhood doors to let residents know about stormwater runoff pollution. This one-time activity is a powerful educational tool for our community.

To volunteer for the Storm Drain Marker Program, please use the Stormwater Volunteer Form.

Winston Salem State University Volunteer FairInvite a Speaker

The Stormwater/Erosion Control Program can make speakers available. Presentations can be made to community groups, businesses, for public events, and in the classroom to talk about stormwater pollution. We can staff a table filled with educational materials. These presentations can be customized to accomodate any time period you choose.

For more information on how you can protect water quality, invite a speaker to meet with your group using the Stormwater Volunteer Form.
