Vegetation Management

Vegetation Management is charged with maintaining all landscapes, turf, and trees on rights of way and in parks. Our goal is to provide a safe and beautiful city for residents and visitors to Winston-Salem. We hope that you'll let us know if you see anything that needs attention.

Grounds Maintenance

Our Grounds Maintenance section is responsible for all mowing on rights of way and in parks. This section mows over 1,000 acres of parks and rights of way biweekly, using 27 employees and a number of mowing contractors.

The Landscape Maintenance Section makes sure that all landscapes on rights of way and in parks are properly maintained and kept looking their best. With over 55 acres of landscaped area, the section's 36 employees work hard to control weeds, prune shrubs and make sure all areas are mulched.

In Fiscal Year 2004 to 2005, Landscape Maintenance personnel planted:

  • 1,090 trees
  • 35,000 perennials
  • 40,000 bulbs
  • 65,000 annual flowers

They also spread 15,000 cubic yards of mulch (3,300 pickup loads!).
