The Office of Sustainability is responsible for researching and recommending improvements concerning greenhouse gas emissions and energy use. This office also seeks to analyze the latest trends and what the City of Winston-Salem is doing to provide services that reflect the city's leadership in energy and environmental awareness.

The Office of Sustainability includes the Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful program, the Recycle Today program, and the Think Orange Campaign for food resilience.

Defining Sustainability

The most widely accepted definition of sustainability is meeting the needs of today without jeopardizing the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. This topic also spans a huge range of issues, from energy efficiency to environmental health to waste systems.
