Northwest Winston-Salem Area Plan Update

The Northwest Winston-Salem Area Plan Update (PDF) was adopted by the Winston-Salem City Council on May 1, 2017. The City-County Planning Board recommended approval of the plan on March 9, 2017. The plan update will guide future area land use and public investment decisions, including recommendations for:

  • Community facilities
  • Design and appearance
  • Economic development
  • Historic preservation
  • Housing and community development
  • Transportation

Planning Area Boundary

The Northwest Winston-Salem Planning Area (PDF) is nearly 4,000 acres (6.1 square miles) and is bounded:

  • On the east by Arbor Acres, the Children's Home, RJ Reynolds High School, and Hawthorne Avenue
  • On the north by the Shoppes at Reynolda Village, the Reynolda Woods neighborhood, and Old Town Country Club
  • On the south by Business 40/US 421
  • On the west by Silas Creek Parkway

The planning area has land in the Southwest, West, Northwest, and North City Council Wards, and is completely within the City of Winston-Salem’s zoning and planning jurisdiction.
