High Demand for Landfill Permits Causing Delays

The suspension of bulky item collection has resulted in unprecedented demand for landfill permits. City of Winston-Salem property owners have flooded the utilities department with applications. In the past, the process took ten days, but the current high volume of requests is causing significant delays.

If you apply online or through City Link, please note the following:

*City of Winston-Salem single-family property owners ONLY
*Non-commercial use ONLY
*Valid for one year from date of issue
*Allows up to TWO free disposal trips to WSFC Utilities landfill & yard waste facilities
*Garbage and refuse must be from the household listed on the permit
*Safety rules posted at each facility must be followed
*Replacement permits for lost or destroyed permits will not be issued
*Unaltered half-ton or smaller vehicles (including pick-ups, SUVs & vans), single-axle trailers (max 8-ft. length) & cars

Due to the increased use of the permits, WSFC Utilities landfills are experiencing record-level traffic with lines sometimes beyond the gate. Customers must cover open loads with secured tarps and may avoid Saturday congestion by arriving earlier in the day or visiting on weekdays. Please practice patience and social distancing with other citizens and employees. Facility hours can be found at cityofws.org/landfill. For more information, please call City Link 311 or 336-727-8000.
