Abbotts Creek sewer system cleaning: June 14-July 12

A contractor will be inspecting and cleaning sewer lines in Kernersville in advance of non-toxic smoke testing that will be used to locate breaks, defects and plumbing faults in the sewer system. This first stage of cleaning work will take place Mondays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting Monday, June 14. Work is expected to take four weeks and be completed by Monday, July 12, weather permitting.

A closed-circuit TV camera unit will be used to inspect sewer lines and a combination wash and vacuum truck will clean the lines. The boundary for this project is generally Shields Road on the north, N.C. Highway 66 on the east, Clayton Forest Road on the south and Tredegar Road on the west. See the attached map for the area included in this project.

Customers within the area have been notified of the smoke testing process via postcard. Smoke testing will begin the week of June 21 and is not smoke in the traditional sense. It is created from a vaporized liquid-smoke and does not create a fire hazard. A door hanger will be left upon completion of the smoke test at each address.

During this project, lane closures will occasionally be required and traffic will be controlled by a flagger when necessary. For more information, call City Link at 336-727-8000.
