Water valve maintenance-Lewisville area: Nov. 1

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities has partnered with HydromaxUSA to evaluate the operation and condition of all 42,000 valves in the distribution system’s 2,330 miles of water mains over the next four years. Phase 1 began in downtown Winston-Salem in July and was completed a month ahead of schedule. Phase 2 covers the rest of Forsyth County with work beginning Monday, Nov. 1 in Lewisville and the surrounding area. Some fire hydrants in the vicinity will also be flushed as part of the project.

Water customers may notice slight fluctuations in pressure and temporary discoloration for a brief period of time. Although water may appear discolored, it remains safe for drinking, cooking and bathing. If water appears red, brown or yellow, you should refrain from washing clothes to avoid potential staining of light-colored clothing.

Crews will conduct this work with an effort to reduce the impact on customers. Citizens can help prioritize response by reporting discolored water to City Link at 311 or 336-727-8000. Subscribe to Alert Center and News Flash for Utilities updates at cityofws.org/notifyme.
