Water Valve Maintenance in Kernersville

Water customers in the Kernersville area may notice slight fluctuations in pressure and temporary discoloration as part of the countywide water valve maintenance program. Though water may be discolored briefly while work is underway in your neighborhood, it remains safe for drinking, cooking and bathing.

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities has partnered with HydromaxUSA to evaluate the operation and condition of all 42,000 valves in the distribution system’s 2,330 miles of water mains over the next three years. Work is expected to wrap up in the Kernersville area in March. Some fire hydrants in the vicinity will also be flushed as part of the project.

If water appears red, brown or yellow, you should refrain from washing clothes to avoid potential staining of light-colored clothing. Crews will conduct this work with an effort to reduce the impact on customers. Citizens can help prioritize response by reporting discolored water to City Link at citylink@cityofws.org, 336-727-8000 or any of the methods on cityofws.org/citylink.
